ASAP! CELEBRATES THE EXPERIENCE

May 19, 2020

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is hard to believe that it was only one year ago that we all gathered together—students, teaching artists, alumni, and our entire beloved community—to celebrate One Night Only, ASAP!’s 20th anniversary.

And what a celebration it was!

It is equally hard to believe that only two months ago, we were planning another glorious event—another chance to come together for dinner and dancing and showcasing even more of the ASAP! experience.

Sadly, that celebration will have to wait.

In light of the present state of the world, we have decided not to hold a gala this year. Instead, we are celebrating our community in a different way, focusing all of our energy and creativity on our primary mission: educating children through the arts.
Here is just a small sample of how we have adapted, and what we are up to:

  • Reviewing the 155 submissions we received for this year’s Celebration of Young Writers, which will take place in August
  • Planning our Six-by-Six event (formerly Side-by-Side) with the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra in August
  • Preparing for Celebration of Young Photographers
  • Expanding on our Virtual Learning Series

We are as committed as ever to our community and are continuing with all of these signature programs, even as we have had to go virtual. In other words, we are doing what we always encourage our students to do. We are honoring imaginations, inviting creativity, stretching beyond our comfort zone, and finding deep wells of resourcefulness.

We know there are many worthy causes to support, especially this year. Private donations are our largest source of funding so we hope you will support ASAP! now so that we can continue fulfilling our mission and providing meaningful and much-needed opportunities for children.

Until we can all gather again, we wish you health and safety and well-being. Although you cannot experience our teaching artists in person as we had hoped this year, please watch the video below as a reminder of what ASAP! is all about, and the power of art to transcend and connect. And please plan to join us for our annual Spring event at this time next year, for what we know will be a most joyful celebration!

Warmly,

Tal Fagin
President of ASAP! Board of Directors
