WE RISE
GRADES 6-12

We Rise is a multidisciplinary social justice program for middle schoolers which supports authentic learning by layering creative expression with meaningful topics. In-school sessions aligned with relevant ELA units give students the chance to explore multiple access points to social justice topics as they integrate work on visual symbolism, spoken word, and music with their research and writing. After school sessions in music and visual arts follow an art therapy framework, providing a safe space for dialogue, authentic self expression, and grappling with topics that are meaningful to the students. The culminating exhibition of We Rise is an opportunity for students to share their work: uplifting their voices, connecting with others, and impacting their community.
