Chantel Edwards Matthews teaching artist at ASAP!

Chantal is a Jamaican-born movement artist whose journey began at just 7 years old as a competitive dancer with Freehold Academy of Performing Arts. For 11 years, she traveled across the U.S., mastering contemporary, ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, & tap. Her artistry deepened at the University of Hartford, where she joined Island Reflections Dance Theater Co. & expanded her repertoire to include African, Folk, Horton, & Caribbean dance.

Her career as a solo artist has flourished, taking on commercial projects like Hartford’s Anti-Litter Campaign (2019) & collaborating with renowned artists such as Lauren Horn (“Renaissance Gyal”) & Deborah Goffe (“Scapegoat Garden”), both of which premiered in summer 2023-2024.

Beyond the stage, she doesn’t just teach movement; she cultivates confidence, creativity, & self-expression in her students. She currently teaches at Kids Community Camp (2023) & holds Movement Workshop at the University of Hartford with their Creativity Course (2025).You can find her monthly teaches at The Hartford Dance Collective & performs with various live bands in CT. She is thrilled to be back for a 2nd year teaching Dance at ASAP!
