SYMPHONIX!

Waterbury K-12 students, many of whom have never held an instrument before, experience the joy of playing, performing, and building community ties through music.

Symphonix! is a comprehensive in-school music program that will fundamentally change how 135 students in grades K–8 experience education. Launched in partnership with Children’s Community School, the program will introduce students to orchestra, chorus, piano, beat-making, and music production. The classroom will be a safe, inclusive space where students can be courageous, try something new, and connect with peers. Families and the community will have the opportunity to engage through informal performances, open rehearsals, and artist-family collaborations, reinforcing intergenerational ties to music and building bridges between school and home.

This pilot program will be carefully documented and studied as we plant the seeds of a citywide youth orchestra that can restore music education across the Waterbury School District, where some students have never played an instrument before. Symphonix! will redefine music education to be joyful, inclusive, and community-rooted.
