Mission, Vision & History
To foster creative, hands-on learning through the arts: ASAP!
When we honor children’s imagination, invite them to create, encourage them to take risks, and trust their resourcefulness, they will become the empowered and resilient adults the world really needs.
ASAP! is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing young people with opportunities to create beautiful and meaningful works of art in a creative and collaborative environment. By inspiring the next generation to discover and embrace their own creativity ASAP! hopes to not only enrich lives, but to change them forever.
Founded in 1999, ASAP!’s original goal was to engage local middle school children from Region 12 in an after-school arts program that was otherwise unavailable to them. With success and increased demand for its programs, ASAP! expanded its geographic reach and extended the range of the children it serves. Since then, ASAP! has produced hundreds of workshops, programs during the school day, summer programs, and events touching the lives of tens of thousands of children and adults from over 100 towns across Connecticut.
In 2005 ASAP! established the Inter-district Project (IDP) as a way to bring together young people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds to explore the arts through collaborative projects. Through the IDP children from urban and rural areas of CT team up to create poetry, photography, murals, dance, music, and theatre.
In 2012 ASAP! increased its depth and scope of in-school programming by working closely with schools to support math, science, and writing curricula through the arts. ASAP!’s special in-school projects connect students to their curriculum through a vibrant experiential learning process. ASAP! collaborates with schools in Bridgewater, Litchfield, New Milford, Newtown, Norfolk, Roxbury, Torrington, Trumbull, Washington, Waterbury, and Woodbury.
In 2014-15 ASAP! reached 93% of its students through in-school, non-tuition based programs, and financial aid. ASAP! depends heavily on fundraising events and support from foundations and individual donors to provide these services. Without this support ASAP! could not continue its significantly worthwhile and enriching programs.
