This summer Johnny attended the Visual Arts Summer Institute at Boston University in Boston, MA for a four-week program.
Before the program, Johnny stated that his goal was to make art a more everyday experience that is currently lacking in American culture. He wanted to make art more entertaining and have people truly appreciate it. While at VASI, Johnny was able to participate in activities with that very purpose, including recreating a Matisse painting on the sidewalks of Boston. He says he discovered that art is “a way to provoke an emotional response in the viewer, not only the artist… We were doing art with the public eye as our audience.”
Johnny describes his experience as life-changing and “far beyond worth it”, and thanks ASAP for making it possible. “Without ASAP,” he says, “I would not be drawing with the intense passion that I feel now every time my pencil touches paper.”
